Author Techniques:

What techniques does the author use to develop the setting, characters, and plot?

The way the setting and characters are explained is very similar to the way a teenager would think. Very random thoughts that also have to do withthe subject at the same time.

The author uses a teenager writing style. The author also uses a unique way of writing. She breaks up her paragraphs, conversations, etc. into small blocks. The word choice and tone of writing makes it seem like Melinda is a shy, almost sour person.

The author describes the main character’s life with a lot of detail, creating a vivid picture. We are able to start to understand the way Melina thinks and feels, just like any other teenager in high school. The way the author seems to jump around Melinda's thoughts shows how much she is thinking about different things all at the same time.
