I think a significant passage of the book is when she is at the assembly and the girls behind Melinda harass her. I think it kind of shows readers what people think of her now that the summer party is over.
A significant passage from the book is when Melinda has the nightmare of IT. "IT sees me. IT smiles and winks. Good thing my lips are stitched together or I'd throw up" (46). This is significant because it is telling us that Melinda has a sick fear of IT, and leaves us wondering what IT is.
One significant passage I found in the book is on page 51 under the “chapter” title, “Closet Space”. “I know me head isn’t screwed on straight. I want to leave, transfer, warp myself to another galaxy. I want to confess everything, hand over the guilt and mistake and anger to someone else. There is a beast in my gut, I can hear is scraping away at the inside of my ribs. Even if I dump the memory, it will stay with me staining me. My closet is a good thing, a quiet place that helps me gold these thoughts inside my head where no one can hear them.” I like how the author uses her closet to symbolize Melinda’s mind. Melinda has all these thoughts remaining within her head that she wants to let someone know, but she can’t.
A significant passage of section 2 is "Nightmare". "I see IT in the hallway. IT goes to Merryweather. IT is walking with Aubrey Cheerleader. IT is my nightmare and I can't wake up. IT sees me. IT smiles and winks. Good thing my lips are stitched together or I'd throw up."
I think this is leading into what is going to happen with Melinda and IT, whoever that is.
In sectiojn three, a significant passage is when IT whispers "Freshmeat" to Melinda. This is a significant passage because it hints that IT is older then her, and shows that IT is a male.
