This book didn't really stand out to me at the beginning but for some reason, I couldnt put it down. It is unusually addictive and darkly entertaining.
One thing I really like about this book is how Melinda is always engrossed in her art project. Art is her one thing that is always there for her, always stable. Yet, you never know exactly what it is about her art class, besides that it is the one thing where she doesn’t feel like she’s an outsider. I love how Laurie Halse Anderson puts an emphasis on her love for art; it’s like a constant reminder to us how we sometimes need that one thing that keeps us sane.
